Moles

Moles or ‘dermal navae’ to give them their medical name, come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are perfectly normal.  Most moles are round or oval shaped with a smooth edge.  They can be raised or flat and feel smooth or rough.  Sometimes they can have hairs growing from them.  People may want moles removed for a variety of reasons -  because they are unsightly, or because they interfere with clothing being two of the most common.  Mole removal is a simple surgical procedure, performed under local anaesthetic and costs around £300.

Some moles can be a sign of melanoma – a type of skin cancer which is on the rise with the advent of affordable foreign holidays.  These have worrying features that will be apparent to your doctor.  Always have moles that have changed in character checked out by your doctor.

For your reassurance, DermaSurgica offers a comprehensive skin screening service to examine all of your skin for the presence of any worrying moles, (including those that you can’t see!), for a flat fee of £400.

Cysts

A cyst is an abnormal ball of fluid or semi-solid material found under the skin on the body or scalp.  Cysts often develop as we get older and many cysts get larger the longer they are left.  Patients often worry about them having found  ‘a new lump’.  Most cysts are entirely harmless, but leaving them for a long time can make the surgery to remove them more difficult and any scar that remains may be larger.  DermaSurgica will surgically remove most cysts under local anaesthetic. Prices start from £350 for a simple cyst, rising in cost for those that are larger, deeper or more surgically complex to remove.  The price is determined at your assessment and is guaranteed not to subsequently rise.

Lipomas

A lipoma is fatty lump found just underneath the skin, often on the upper back, shoulder and abdomen. Lipomas are actually benign tumours but have the potential to turn more aggressive.  Thankfully, this is exceptionally rare.  Lipomas can grow at very different rates, some rapidly increasing in size and some barely growing over many years.

DermaSurgica will remove unsightly lipomata from £500 depending on site, size and the complexity of the surgery required.

Skin Tags / Warts

Skin tags are harmless growths on your skin.  Warts can sometimes be caused by a viral infection whilst seborrhoeic warts can be spontaneous and are more common as we get older.

Both may bother you because they are unsightly or because they might catch on clothing or straps resulting in discomfort, itching or bleeding.

It important to have them checked by a doctor to exclude more serious skin conditions.

DermaSurgica will remove them from a starting price of £250 and will discount this for multiple removals.

Before and After surgery

Keloids

Keloid is the name given to a raised scar left on the skin after a wound has healed.  They can be common after piercings and are more prevalent on darker skin types.

They can be difficult to remove completely however a combination of medical and surgical treatment can often achieve excellent cosmetic results.

DermaSurgica will remove unsightly keloid scars from £500 depending on site, size and the complexity of the surgery required, including any adjuvant medical treatment required.

BCCs

Basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are a form of slow growing skin cancer, and are the most common form of skin cancer in the United Kingdom.  They often form at sites of high sun exposure and can grow many years after sun damage has occurred.  They can grow at different rates and rarely cause problems away from the site that they grow, especially when treated early.

DermaSurgica will remove BCCs starting from £500 depending on the site, size and complexity of the surgery required.  BCCs on the ears often require more complex ear reconstruction surgery post removal and prices will vary accordingly.

BCCs have a wide range of possible presentations and can look very different from one another.  Some are shiny patches on the skin, others can be open sores that do not heal.  They can be pigmented or skin coloured.  Best to have any skin lesions persisting for more than 4 weeks checked by an expert.
